George W. Gorham papers, 1849, 1860-1865.

The collection consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence, 1849, 1860-1865 of Gorham, including letters to his wife Emily and his daughter; one page of his journal; a requisition for clothing and other equipment for the use of Company M, (1st Cavalry?) November 1864; Volunteer and descriptive list and account of pay and clothing of Private James Kirby, Co. I, 1st Massachusetts Cavalry; Gorham's own muster-in roll for 1st Massachusetts Cavalry as chaplain, 1864; a bill for supplies; roster of Company F and Company H, undated; and a new license law, no location given, undated. Several letters are on letterhead of the Christian Commission in Washington, DC. In a letter dated April 3, 1864, Gorham mentioned how President Lincoln was at City Point on a steamboat for a few days before going out to the front. Gorham also described fighting at Petersburg and Fredericksburg, Virginia. Gorham was a minister in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and Chester, Connecticut.
